Hi all,
Thank you for being part of the beta-program! I have to say that every time I open these pages because I realize how much better you are helping the end product to become.
So far the five first chapters are released and I thought I'd share my plans going forward as well as the overall structure of the book.
My beta-release plan I really want to finish this book soon. And with your help, I will. Here's my plan:
- Each Wednesday I will release 5-6 new chapters for beta review
- Yes - 5 new chapters (CH06-CH10) has just been released today.
- I will let you guys read and comment for a few weeks (2-3) before I start to make changes based on your feedback.
- That means that you can read the whole book, in this first version, before Christmas.
- I will then finish the edits after your comments of the whole thing too early January
- Hopefully, this means that the second much better version of the whole book will be done by then
I hope you like this schedule.
The parts The book is not long (around 55.000 words, or ca 120-130 pages) but the story falls naturally into 6 discrete parts, the each describes a phase or evolution that the hospital went through as I was there.
There are spoilers in these descriptions… Beware.
Here they are, with suggested part names:
- Part 1 - The disaster (CH01 - CH02). Relates the story of the disaster and the first steps to getting on our feets again.
- Part 2 - The rebuild (CH03 - CH09) - I start to describe how we, with very simple measures, started to use kanban to get some control in our world. We will also see some of the early amazing results
- Part 3 - The plateau (CH10 - CH12) - After a while, we reached a situation where we didn't evolve further and we ran into some organizational problems. My contracted time with the hospital also came to an end and I had to leave for a while
- Part 4 - The emergency (CH13 - CH14 ) - Believe it or not, but yet another emergency happens, although not as physical. This led me to once again team up to the hospital and start to help them to evolve further
- Part 5 - A new level (CH15 - CH19) - We reached new levels of both performance and management and learned a lot about what the true goal of a hospital is. And how to measure it
- Part 6 - The epilogue (CH20 - CH21) - Finally I will share my reflections and thoughts on why the approach we took worked so well. This is also where we will end the story as I leave for home.
That's the parts of the book and my idea of a release plan.
Thank you again for reading the book and giving me the feedback to improve it. Appreciate it very much.
